It all started with a single store in 1996, when Rack Attack set out to help Vancouver adventurers bring all their gear on the road. With a passion for exploration, we quickly gained a reputation for being the go-to retailer for any outdoor enthusiast.
Fast forward to today, and we've grown into North America's premier retailer of vehicle rack solutions. With 45 locations across the continent, we're able to ship our products straight to your door in no time - and with no extra cost, most of the time.

If you happen to live close to one of our stores, we can even install everything we sell for you. Many of our in-store customers opt for our 'factory style' rack installations, which are known for their quality and durability.

In 2017, Banyan Capital Partners and Rack Attack management purchased the company from its original founder. With Banyan's support, we're poised for even greater growth and success in the years to come. As part of the Connor, Clark & Lunn Financial Group, Banyan brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table, helping us continue to thrive and expand.
The Journey So Far
1996
Rack Attack Blinks into existence
Just a few blocks away from our current location in Vancouver Canada. Rack Attack opened our first store to offer locals solutions for carrying their outdoor gear on cars no longer coming with rain gutters.
Rack Attack heads east
Just a few months later, our first location in Ontario Canada opened in Toronto.
1998
We're online
Despite many people still thinking "no one will ever buy real things online", Rack Attack got their online ecommerce site live in 1998.
1999
Our First Store in the USA
Just three years after opening our first door, Rack Attack moves into the great United States with our first store in Denver, Colorado.
2000-2013
More stores join the party
From Portland, to Toronto, to Boston, to Minneapolis and more, we opened more doors and never looked back!
2004
First on Amazon
In 2004, Rack Attack became the first store selling Thule car racks on Amazon.
2015
Rack Attack loves Car Shares
Rack Attack partnered with EVO Car Share in Vancouver to outfit their entire fleet with custom electric blue Thule Bike and Ski Rack systems. The first of their kind.
2017
Rack Attack welcomes new owners
A majority interest in Rack Attack was acquired by Banyan Capital Partners.
2018-2019
Hello new stores!
We grew and grew and grew! Chicago, Santa Monica, Pasadenca, Colorado Springs, Victoria, Kelowna, and Ottawa stores were added to the mix.
National Cycling Partners
Rack Attack partners with USA Cycling and Cycling Canada as the official Rack Retailer.
2020
New website launched
We made some improvements and launched the 4th version of our website.
2021
Happy 25th Birthday, Rack Attack
Celebrating 25 years of helping people explore.
Thule partnership kick-off
Rack Attack partners with Thule to open a series of brand stores in North America, starting with Denver and then Vancouver.
2021-2024
We acquired some top rack shops
We acquired Rack Outfiters in Texas, Rack Solid in California and Rack Unlimited in Calgary, adding to our unstoppable mix of stores.
We're not done yet!
We entered the Arizona market, added more stores to California, popped up in Atlanta, along with Idaho, another in Colorado and Vegas. And we're not done yet!
